Councillor Allison Gwynne
Ward: Denton North East
Annual Report of Activities 2015/16
Participation at Council Meetings and Panels
I held the position of Executive Member for Children and Families until January 2016 whereby my portfolio changed and I am now the Executive Member for Clean & Green which includes responsibility for Waste, Environment and Engineering. I am currently in the transition period of this new role which is a challenging role.
As an Executive Member for Children and Families
• I supported and attended the Children in Care Council until January 2016.
• I was a member of the Tameside Safeguarding Children’s Board until January 2016.
• I was a trustee of the Friends of Tameside Young Carers
As a Councillor
• I have attended as many Full Council meetings as I was able to.
• I have attended most pre-Council Labour Group meetings.
• I have attended most meetings of the Executive Cabinet and Executive Board.
• I have attended all Scrutiny Panel meetings that I have been requested to attend and have been invited to committees and panels that my position requires.
Participation at District Assemblies
I am a member of the Denton District Assembly. I have attended most of the meetings held.
I have also attended most of the pre-District Assembly Labour Group meetings.
Participation on Outside Bodies and Partnerships
At present I sit on no outside bodies.
Participation on School Governing Bodies
At present I am on no School Governing Bodies.
Constituency Work
I have attended numerous residents meetings, public meetings and community events including:
• Mayoral Events
• The Annual Denton and Audenshaw Carnival
• The Denton and Audenshaw Carnival Committee
• Visiting local schools, organisations and businesses
I have responded promptly to all casework given to me. I receive enquiries from constituents over the phone, by email, at surgeries and in person by residents stopping me in the street. The casework is varied, ranging from simple requests – for example a blue bin – to a more complex problem solving request. In most of these cases I have to liaise with Officers within the Council, New Charter Housing Trust or other outside agencies to resolve the problem.
Members Advice Surgeries
I hold regular advice surgeries at Denton Town Hall, however I take majority of my casework by email or over the telephone where messages can be left on my answerphone and where possible I will respond the same day.
Training and Development
I have been a Councillor for 16 years; I regularly attend training sessions to keep myself up to date with changes in Government legislation and Council policies.
Achievements During the Year
In my role of Executive Member I am honoured to have the opportunity to be able to make changes to improve life for Children and Young People in the Borough and I am in the process of meeting council officers and attending briefing meetings in relation to the new challenges arising from the changes in my new portfolio which include Waste, Environment and Engineering.
I am pleased to have supported the Regeneration of Denton and I am involved in the on-going developments within the Town Centre, this includes the new developments on the Oldham Batteries site and liaising with outside agencies.
