Councillor Teresa Smith

Ward: Audenshaw

Annual Report of Activities 2015/16

Achievements During the Year

Once again this has been a very busy year working with local residents and community groups.

This year has seen a new memorial stone placed at Ryecroft Hall to remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice and in thanks for those who have returned safely. This new stone has enabled us to now have three Remembrance services in Audenshaw in the hope that more residents will have the opportunity to attend and pay tribute to those who have given everything for us.

Audenshaw has continued to have three Christmas trees and I have worked closely with Ryecroft Hall Management Committee to ensure residents could enjoy a light switch on.

I have also worked with RHMC to provide Family Fun Days at Ryecroft Hall and with my colleagues to work with the Dogs Trust for a Bark in the Park event at Shepley Park and a Spring Family Fun Day. I have also worked hard to improve Shepley Park’s general appearance including helping to secure funding for new signage and artwork.

I have organised and taken part in a number of community clean up’s and litter picks throughout the area.

I am also delighted to see that after continual campaigning the lights in the underpass have been replaced and we have netting at the railway bridges to address the pigeon problem!

Participation at Council Meetings and Panels

I have attended all Full Council Meetings this municipal year.

I have enjoyed being a member of the People Scrutiny Panel which has covered many interesting issues and volunteered to be part of working parties that look closely at particular issues. This includes interviewing partners and outside agencies to discuss strategies to move issues forward.

Participation at District Assemblies

I have continued to enjoy the role of Deputy Chair at these meetings.

Over the municipal year I have had the opportunity to meet with many residents to discuss issues that are important to them.

Participation on Outside Bodies

I am a member of Tameside Advisory Council for Religious Education.

Constituency Work

I have continued to address various pieces of casework at surgeries, via email and over the telephone. Along with my colleagues I have contacted the entire ward through leaflets, roving surgeries and surveys. I have also worked closely with our Member of Parliament- Andrew Gwynne on various constituency matters.

I have continued to hold regular meetings with our Neighbourhood Manager to discuss concerns and to receive regular updates.

I have attended public events and residents meetings.

Members Advice Surgeries

I have continued to hold regular advice surgeries and walkabouts in the area.

Training Sessions

I have attended the training sessions that are available to Elected Members. These have included budget planning, recycling and Green-space.

I have enjoyed my first term of office as a local councillor and working hard for the residents of Audenshaw.
