Parish By-Election: Lancashire Ward

Following the Notice of Vacancy, ten residents of the Lancashire Ward have come forward to request an election.

The Returning Officer has set a date of Thursday 27 March 2025 for residents of the Lancashire Ward of the Mossley Parish to elect a new Parish Councillor.

Candidate Criteria

To stand for the position of Parish Councillor you must meet the following criteria:

Are a British, Commonwealth, Republic of Ireland or qualifying European Union citizen and on the day of their nomination and on the day of poll they are aged 18 or over. (LGA 1972, Sec 79 (1))

In addition, the candidate must meet at least one of the following criteria:

  1. on the relevant day and thereafter they continue to be on the electoral register for the parish,
  2. during the whole of the twelve months before that day they have owed or tenanted land or premises in the parish,
  3. during the whole of the twelve months before that day their principle or only place of work has been in the parish, or
  4. during the whole of the twelve months before that day they have resided in the parish or within 4.8 kilometres of it

Except for qualification (1), which must continue for the length of office, the above four qualifications must apply for the period inclusive of nomination and election, (LGA 1972, Sec79(2)). Certain people are disqualified from candidacy (see LGA 1972, Sec 80 for detail).

Submitting Nomination Forms

Nomination period will begin on Friday 21 February 2025.

Nomination papers will be available to collect (if a printed copy is required) and submit by appointment only. To arrange a suitable time, please contact the Elections Office directly on 0161 342 3036 or elections@tameside.gov.uk 

 

Who can vote in this Election?

Residents of the Lancashire ward who are on the electoral register or register before midnight on Tuesday 11 March will be able to vote.

The Lancashire ward is made up of most of MOSS3 and MOSS1A districts falling within the Parish boundary. Valid Electors will receive a poll card in March.

You will need valid ID to vote in the polling station. Please visit the GOV.UK Voter ID website to check what is permitted, or to apply for a Voter Identification Certificate (by 19 March).
