Apethorn-Godley Railway

Map ref : SJ 943 935

Parking

Car Parking: on the street before the bridge at Apethorn Lane, Gee Cross; or Oaklands Road/Firethorn Drive, Godley; or Farm Lane, Hyde.

The Apethorn-Godley Railway is a wildlife corridor along the old railway line. Now part of the Trans Pennine Trail, it takes you from Hyde to the more rural countryside near Godley.

Once on the old railway line there is a level path that is surfaced with tarmac for just over 2km. Access is through gap or A-frame stiles suitable for wheelchairs and prams. At Apethorn Lane both the road from the car park and the access ramp have inclines of 1 in 12 or more for short distances. At Farm Lane access from the road is via a slightly uneven track, which as it nears our entrance has an incline of more than 1 in 12 for several metres. At Oaklands Road/Firethorn Drive , access is via a relatively level compacted stone path. The obstruction on the railway is an A-frame stile about 500m from Apethorn Lane. Several benches are found along the route.
