Countryside - Outreach

A priority for the Countryside Service is to give people the confidence and ability to enjoy their local countryside.

We welcome everyone no matter what their age, ability, ethnic background or religion.

Here are just some of the ways we are helping to encourage people to enjoy a visit to the countryside.

  • We run a varied events programme throughout the year. Many of the events can be enjoyed to the full by people with disabilities. These events can be stepping stones to people going out to explore the countryside on their own, or with family and friends.
  • We are promoting the countryside for health, working closely with the health authority. We have developed a number of self guided health walks to help people get or stay fit.
  • We go out into the community to give talks to local groups and societies.
  • We are working with community leaders of ethnic communities to break down the barriers to visiting the countryside: challenging but often rewarding work.
  • We run an outdoor education programme called Outdoor Classroom which enables children, many of who may not have visited the countryside before, to enjoy and learn from their visit.
  • We have established or participate in a number of consultative groups throughout the Borough, with local residents, users of the countryside, landowners and others, so that we can use their knowledge, experience and views to improve the service we provide.
