Following the postponement of the 2020 Local Elections due to the pandemic, Tameside local elections will be held on Thursday 6 May 2021. During this election, one new councillor per ward will be elected from nominated candidates.
Candidates can choose to stand as a political party member or as an independent candidate. Independent candidates do not belong to a political party. If you are considering standing as a member of a political party, please contact the party to discuss their candidate requirements.
The Greater Manchester Mayoral Elections will be taking place on the same day. Please contact the Greater Manchester Combined Authority if you are interested in standing as a candidate for the GM Mayoral Elections.
Who Can Stand
To stand as a candidate in Tameside you must:
- Be 18 years old or over on the day of your nomination
- Be a British citizen, EU citizen, or Commonwealth citizen
- Be registered to vote in Tameside and/or have been living or working in Tameside for a year prior to your nomination
Nominations
The nomination process for the 6 May Local Elections will begin on Tuesday 30 March 2021 following the publication of the Notice of Election.
People who wish to stand as a candidate in the election must complete a set of nomination papers. These papers will be published here when they become available.
The nomination deadline to stand as a candidate in the local election is 4PM on Thursday 8 April 2021.
