If you are a postal voter and your postal vote is over five years old, you may receive a Signature Refresh letter from us. We are legally required to request a fresh signature from postal voters every five years.

When applying to vote by post, you are required to provide your signature and date of birth. When you receive your postal vote ballot during an election, you are again required to provide your signature and date of birth on a Postal Voting Statement. The signature and date of birth provided on your application and Postal Voting Statement are compared to ensure that someone else cannot use your vote and to prevent electoral fraud. We do not use these details for any other purpose.
Receiving a fresh signature every five years from postal voters is a vital part of these security measures as signatures and circumstances can change over time. If your circumstances have changed and you are no longer able to provide a consistent signature, please contact us using the information below to discuss the options available to you.
Forms are being dispatched for signature renewal on Wednesday 20th January 2021.

If you receive a form from us, please complete and return the form as soon as possible. If you do not return the completed form to us within three weeks of this date, we are legally required to send you a reminder, which will incur further costs.

If you no longer wish to vote by post, respond by ticking the relevant box on the Signature Refresh form and return it to us as soon as possible to avoid any unnecessary reminders.
You must complete and return the Signature Refresh forms by Thursday 3rd March 2021.
If we do not receive a fresh signature by this date, you will lose your entitlement to vote by post. You will instead have to vote in person at a polling station on the day of the election or reapply to vote by post.
Completed forms are to be returned to Civica Election Services, who have been enlisted by Tameside Council to print and scan Signature Refresh documents.
If you have any queries or would like to talk to the Elections Team about options available, please email elections@tameside.gov.uk or call us at 0161 342 8355.
