A new service has been launched to help bridge skills gaps, reduce redundancies and help people get back into work across Greater Manchester in light of #COVID19. Find out more  #EmployGM #Skills #Employment #BusinessSupport

Employ GM is a new initiative, aiming to provide business and individuals across the city-region with tailored support – with the aim of bridging skills gaps, adapting to shifting skills demand and helping businesses to respond quickly to change during what is an ongoing and uncertain situation. This is being delivered alongside the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) and our delivery Partners.

How the initiative will work

It will connect employers who have urgent temporary vacancies with individuals across Greater Manchester who are available to start work straight away.  It will provide practical support across the recruitment cycle which includes promotion of jobs to a large network of available candidates, quick and efficient recruitment and running a weekly payroll for businesses not used to utilising a temporary workforce.

Employ GM will also support individuals who have been made redundant due to COVID-19, as well as self-employed people who have seen a significant drop in work, by helping them look for new job opportunities as well as providing them with careers advice and training.

Specific help for employers

Employ GM will provide business with support in the following areas:
  • Linking them to talent pools that are specific to their individual requirements
  • Advertising both temporary and permanent roles and quickly matching candidates to them
  • Providing leadership and management training
  • Delivering both accredited and non-accredited training to new members of an organisation’s workforce so they can quickly mobilise in new roles or sectors
  • Helping employers to quickly payroll individuals who are on temporary contracts
  • Supporting employees who have been furloughed
  • Providing support for employers who need to re-shape their business
  • Support with processing new employees onto their payroll

Specific help for individuals

Support will be available for individuals who have lost their jobs as a result of COVID-19, and to self-employed people who have seen a significant drop in work. Help will include:
  • Matching people with the right vacancies
  • Careers advice
  • Training and skills development
  • Help finding both temporary and permanent roles
  • Redundancy support and help in instances where hours have been reduced
  • Support for people who have been furloughed to help them make decisions on volunteering, learning and training
