Homes, Spaces, Places – Shaping Tameside for Tomorrow

Options and Preferences overview

Having considered the outcomes of the scoping consultation, the Homes, Spaces, Places Options and Preferences Draft Plan was produced. The plan sets out the preferred policy approaches organised by the seven themes identified in the scoping plan, with each policy approach supported by a reasoned justification. The plan also sets out a proposed Vision for Tameside by 2042 and sets seven strategic objectives, one to correspond to each of the themes of Centres, Environment, Homes, Jobs, People, Travel and Places.

A consultation on the Homes, Spaces, Places Options and Preferences Draft Plan was undertaken for a period of 7 weeks from 14 April 2025 to 2 June 2025.

The plan was supported by the Options and Preferences Draft Policies Map, a Habitat Regulations Assessment (April 2025) and the Options and Preferences Draft Plan Evidence Base.

A review of the plan in relation to the Integrated Assessment was undertaken and published as part of the consultation; see the Integrated Assessment of The Homes, Spaces, Places, Plan – Options and Preference – Main Report for further information. Any representations made during the consultation in respect of the Integrated Assessment are summarised in the Integrated Assessment of The Homes, Spaces, Places, Plan – Options and Preferences – Consultation Addendum (July 2025). An updated Integrated Assessment Main Report and Non-Technical Summary were subsequently prepared post-consultation.

Details of the consultation, including who was consulted and the methods used, are set out in the Homes, Spaces, Places Statement of Consultation Compliance.

Options and Preferences consultation outcomes

A total of 94 responses were received to the consultation. The responses can be viewed here. A summary of the main issues raised during the consultation is provided in the Homes, Spaces, Places Consultation Summary Report.

The outcomes of the consultation were used to inform the next stage of the plan-making process, the Preferred Options plan.
