  • Play games such as ‘I spy’,  and sound ‘treasure hunts’ e.g. finding things around the house that begin with a p sound etc.
  • At this age children love role play and pretending to be their favourite character. Act out your child’s favourite story with them. Take pictures of each part of the story and your child will enjoy putting the photos in order and re-telling the story.
  • At this age, children’s language skills develop significantly. Help them learn new describing words by showing them unusual  objects and talking about how they look, feel, smell and sound ( You can even include some unusual foods to explore tastes.) Examples include, sponge, pine cone, lemon, bubble wrap, shells etc.
  • Activities such as ‘Simon says’ are excellent at helping a child to listen to and follow a set of instructions. You can take it in turns to be the leader!
  • Help your child learn math concepts during play e.g. when playing in water have different containers that they can pour from. Use language such as empty, full, pouring.
