Book Time for Yourself Clubs

Tameside's free, friendly and relaxing weekly book clubs

Announcement: Tameside Library Service during Tier 4 restrictions in force from 31 December 2020.

From Monday 4 January 2021 Tameside Library buildings will not be open for general use and browsing – however you will be able to return items or collect pre-ordered books at the Library entrance. In addition all online services and the Home Library Service will continue. There will also be strictly managed access to public PCs in library buildings to assist with essential activity such as job applications, benefit claims and digital access to other public services.

We have a range of online services and digital events on offer but due to Covid-19 guidelines there are currently no events or activities taking place in libraries. For full details of revised current services and facilities, please see our Libraries
homepage and social media.

The clubs offer a new type of reading experience. They are small and friendly, and meet at various locations across Tameside once a week for an hour and a half.

How do they work?

Volunteers read short stories, poems and books aloud to the group. Members can simply sit back and listen, or join in discussions about what they have just heard.

Unlike standard readers’ groups members do not need to read the book or short story before coming to a session making them pressure free.

Who is it for?

Book Time for Yourself clubs are open to any adults who are looking for the time and space to relax.

What sort of things do you read?

A mixture of novels, short stories and poems.

Where do the clubs meet?

Please note some groups meet during Open+ hours. To attend you will need to be registered for Open+ access. For full details please visit or contact the library during staffed hours.
