About Us

Libraries are for everyone!

There are 8 Libraries in Tameside. It is free to join the library and you are never too young to become library member. Your parent or carer will need to sign for you if you are under 16, or you can call into the library and ask for a membership form. Take the signed completed form along to your local library and you will be given your library key card.

There are all sorts of books in the library ...

  • books for babies
  • adventure stories
  • funny stories
  • information books
  • The latest books by top authors like Jacqueline Wilson, Lemony Snicket and JK Rowling
  • ...and lots more.

You can borrow up to 12 books, and keep them for up to three weeks.  Bring them back on or before the date stamped in the book.  You can have your books stamped again if nobody else wants them.  You won't have to pay fines if the books are returned to the library late - but don't forget other people may want to read them.

Stories for children and teenagers on cassette and CD are also available - these are free for you to borrow. Some libraries have DVDs and music CDs, there is a charge to borrow these items.

All libraries have computers that you can book for 30 minute slots. Our computers have lots of different software on including Microsoft Office (word, publisher and PowerPoint). You can also access the Internet subject to signed permission from your parent or carer, and can go on the internet free for up to one hour every day, if you want to stay on longer you pay 75p for every extra 1/2 hour. Computer sessions can be booked by asking at the library or telephoning.

We have lots of activities taking place throughout the year, including story times, crafts, art workshops, quizzes and competitions. We have extra activities happening in school holidays and every Summer you can take part in the Reading Challenge where reading books gets you rewards including a medal. There is also a chance to win prizes. Find out about library activities and events by looking on the what's on website.

Come and see for yourself!
