Access and Inclusion

Tameside Libraries aim to provide inclusive services that are accessible to all members of the community and we are always willing to be flexible in response to the needs of customers. Please contact us to discuss your individual needs.
 
Joining the library is easy and membership is free. There are two ways to join: in person by visiting any Tameside Library or online. You can even join the library as a light user if you are living someone temporarily or don't have proof of your address. Information on disabled access and facilities for all our libraries is available along with opening times.
 

Services for Deaf People

Tameside Libraries have resources of interest to Deaf people and people who are learning British Sign Language.
 

Services for Visually Impaired People  

All of Tameside's Libraries have collections of talking books and large print books for adults and children as well as a range of other services. Visit our Visual Impairment pages for more information.
 

Services for People with Autism  

Libraries in Tameside have lots of services and activities for you to enjoy and we are always willing to be flexible in response to the needs of customers. Please contact us to discuss individual needs for you or your child.
 

Computer Access for Everyone 

Tameside Libraries have equipment and software that makes it easier for everyone to use our computers, from large keyboards to screen magnification software.
 

Services for Older People  

Libraries in Tameside have lots of services and activities for you to enjoy that will help keep your mind and body active.
 

Home Library Service  

If you are unable to visit the library due to reduced mobility you may be able to join the Home Library Service. The Home Library Service can bring books, talking books, music and jigsaws to you in your own home. They can also visit you if you live in a residential care home. Tameside Libraries Readers’ Groups

Do you love reading? Join one of Tameside Libraries Readers' Groups. Members of the group all take copies of the same book to read each month and then meet to discuss it. Groups read a variety of genres over the year and can suggest titles.
 

Reading Friends 

Reading Friends meet regularly to talk and share stories.  We do this by starting conversations through reading and sessions may also include activities such as crafts, guest speakers and other events. Reading Friends meet up to read, chat and have fun.
 

Services for People Affected by Dementia

Libraries in Tameside have lots of services and activities for you to enjoy and we are always willing to be flexible in response to the needs of customers. Please contact us to discuss individual needs for you or someone you care for.
 

Skills for Life

All Tameside Libraries have collections to help skills for life students who are studying to improve their reading and writing or those who have English as an additional language. Our collections are called OK4U and RAW and include Quick Reads for adults, graded texts chosen by literacy tutors and accessible mainstream texts. We also offer class visits for groups of skills for life students. Please contact your nearest library for more information.
 

Books and Resources in Community Languages  

Tameside Libraries have collections of books, newspapers and magazines in:
  • Arabic (at Ashton Library)
  • Bangla 
  • Chinese (at Denton Library)
  • Gujarati
  • Polish (at Ashton Library)
  • Ukrainian (at Ashton Library)
  • Urdu 
Dual language children's books are available in English and another language, including Albanian; Arabic; Bangla; Chinese; Farsi; French; Gujarati; Polish; Portuguese, Ukrainian and Urdu and others
 
PressReader provides access to over 5000 daily newspaper and magazine titles from more than 100 countries, in over 60 languages while connected to the Internet.
 

Services for LGBTQIA+ People  

LgbtTameside Libraries have 5 collections of LGBT books. You can find them in the Library by looking out for the rainbow triangle which is on display next to the collections, and on the spine of each book.
