Who we are
Connex Care and Support Tameside is part of Connex Community Support, a registered charity based in Derbyshire’s Peaks and Dales.  We provide a range of services to the community including CQC registered care and support services to children and young people with disabilities aged 0 - 25.
Our Tameside office offers respite and care to support families where a child or children have additional needs or disabilities.   Our team consists of a highly experienced Team Leader, and a Coordinator, managing a team of dedicated, qualified and trained support workers.

What we do
We provide support workers to look after children or young people in their own homes, or to accompany them on outings so that parents can take time out from caring responsibilities.  This helps parents to continue in their vital caring role whilst reducing the impact of the stress and tiredness that can come with continuous caring responsibilities.
We can also carry out targeted work with disabled teenagers/younger adults to help them gain more independence.

What Services do we offer?
Our services cover individual support in the home and the community.  Our workers can:

  • Sit at home with your child while you go out or have a rest
  • Take your child to an activity group or organisation like Scouts or an art club (we have information on local groups if you would like to see this)
  • Take your child out to the park or on an outing, or be an extra pair of hands to accompany you with your child
  • Offer additional help if you are having a party for children with additional needs
  • Accompany you to hospital visits/medical appointments or allow you a break from hospital visiting
  • If your child has complex medical needs such as PEG feeding/epilepsy/medication etc., we can provide appropriately trained support workers.  We can also source training for specific needs where necessary.
  • Provide one to one support for residential trips and activities
  • Direct payment work - we can handle all the difficulties of employing a support worker so you don’t have to
  • Spot contracts - we can cover spot contracts from local authorities where support is required for individuals.
  • Independence training for teenagers and younger adults, including planning bus routes, managing money, building confidence, etc.

How do we work
Our workers can be booked at a time to suit you (minimum of a two hour block in any one session) and you can use the time to do something for yourself.  We will always do our best to meet your needs (but please note this may not always be possible due to worker availability).  We treat each family sensitively and individually, whilst maintaining a child centred approach.

We can also provide support for people on a Direct Payment.  For this, or private work, party support, or commissions, please contact us direct and we can talk you through our charges depending on your needs.
Parents/carers can now self-refer via our website or by emailing tameside@connex.org.uk

Parents/carers can also self-refer to access our CCG funded support of x12 2.5 hour sessions . We supported a young boy and his family with behavioural support , he had ASD and ADHD , mum had not taken him out alone for a year due to lack of confidence in handling his behaviour. At the end of our 12 sessions mum described the experience as “life changing”. The family were able to enjoy activities together again having been supported with techniques, strategies and positive confidence building.

Latest News
July 2021
Connex Community Support Tameside attained a Tesco bags of help grant to run monthly Saturday clubs  (flexible day during holidays) which enables us to support children age 3-12 with ADHD and/or ASD . At our last club we had a bouncy castle and fairground themed games, instruments and songs. The children also received a sensory toy pack and had a picnic lunch. Watch the video here.

We also undertook some bespoke training with ‘Relax Kids Tameside’ which aims to promote wellbeing, relaxation and emotional expression and the ladies are going to provide the children a session at our next club.

During non-term time we also hold ‘Stay and Play’ sessions in collaboration with Active Tameside, these are held at The Ken Ward Centre, Hattersley and are a fun opportunity for children under 7 years to socialise and access fun activities, providing parents respite but also introducing the children to the Active programme with the support of an individual support worker (provided by Connex).
