Service Life

Private William Buckley (2224) enlisted in Oldham and served with the 1/10th Battalion of the Manchester Regiment. For his service in the army, which included going overseas to Gallipoli in May 1915, William was awarded the Allied Victory Medal, British War Medal and 1914-1915 Star.

We Shall Remember Him

William was killed in action on 1 June 1915, aged 19. He is commemorated on the Helles Memorial, Turkey (Grave/Memorial Reference – Panel 158 - 170). His Next of Kin Memorial Plaque is on display in the Museum of the Manchester Regiment in the Forshaw Gallery.
