Edmund Olive
Early Life
Edmund was born in Elton, Bury, Lancashire and was the son of John and Sarah Jane Olive of 16 Peak Street, Werneth, Oldham, Lancashire.
Service Life
Private Edmund Olive (1590) enlisted in Oldham and served in ‘C’ Company of the 10th Battalion the Manchester Regiment. For his service in the army, which included going overseas to Gallipoli in May 1915, Edmund was awarded the Allied Victory Medal, British War Medal and 1914-15 Star.
We Shall Remember Him
Edmund was 18 years old when he died of wounds on 16 May 1915. He is buried in Skew Bridge Cemetery, Turkey (Grave/Memorial Reference – Special Memorial A58.). His Next of Kin Memorial Plaque is on display in the Museum of the Manchester Regiment in the Ladysmith Gallery memorial cabinet drawer 5.
