Richard Thomas Priestley

Early Life

Richard Thomas PriestleyRichard was the son of William and Frances Priestley of 206 Mee Green Lane, Wigan, Lancashire.

Service Life

Private Richard Thomas Priestley (3004) enlisted in Wigan and served with the 1/5th Battalion of the Manchester Regiment. For his service in the army, which included going overseas to Gallipoli in June 1915, Richard was awarded the Allied Victory Medal, British War Medal and 1914-15 Star. Richard’s Medals can be seen in the Museum of the Manchester Regiment.

We Shall Remember Him

Richard was 17 years old when he was killed in action on 7 August 1915. He is buried in Twelve Tree Copse Cemetery, Turkey (Grave/Memorial Reference – I.B.16). His Next of Kin Memorial Plaque is on display in the Museum of the Manchester Regiment in the Forshaw Gallery.
