Joseph Verity

Early Life

Joseph was born and lived in Salford, Manchester. His brother was William Verity of 96 Harrington Street, Trafford Road, Salford, Manchester.

Service Life

Joseph Verity had served as a Corporal (3984) during the Boer War (1899-1902). Joseph re-enlisted during the First World War into the 1/7th Battalion of the Manchester Regiment and rose to the rank of Lance Corporal (1413).

For his service in the army Joseph earned the Queen’s South Africa Medal, 1914-15 Star, British War Medal and Allied Victory Medal. Joseph’s medals can be seen in the Museum of the Manchester Regiment.

We Shall Remember Him

Joseph was killed in action on 4 June 1915 at Gallipoli. He was 41 years old. Joseph is remembered on the Helles Memorial, Turkey (Grave/Memorial Reference – Panel 158-170).

His Next of Kin Memorial Plaque is on display in the Museum of the Manchester Regiment in the Ladysmith Gallery memorial cabinet drawer 4.
