Private William Taylor Ward (57308)

William, the son of Robert Ward and his wife Jane Elizabeth née Jackson, was born in Stockport and lived in Osborne Road. In 1918 he enrolled in the Manchester Regiment and started training at Prees in Shropshire. As part of the 2/6th Battalion he was posted to France. He was severely injured in Battle and taken prisoner. He spent the rest of the war in a prisoner of war camp at Güstrow in northern Germany. On repatriation he returned to Stockport where he worked for the Oil Well Engineering Company of Cheadle Heath, got married and raised a family. William died in 1961.
