Walter Youel

Early Life

Walter was born in Longsight, Manchester and was the son of Alfred and Emily Youel of 14 Corby Street, West Gorton, Manchester.

Service Life

Private Walter Youel (47986) enlisted in Manchester and served with both the 11th and 22nd Battalions of the Manchester Regiment. For his service in the army, Walter was awarded the Allied Victory Medal and British War Medal.

 

We Shall Remember Him

Walter was 19 years old when he died of wounds on 1 November 1917. He is buried in Loos British Cemetery, France (Grave / Memorial Reference – XX.C.II). His Next of Kin Memorial Plaque is on display in the Museum of the Manchester Regiment in case 32.
