Tameside Council is committed to supporting our local employers to ensure that they can make the best decisions for their businesses and employees.

There is a broad range of support available to businesses covering retraining, staff support and advice on following correct procedures for redundancy.

The Tameside Council Employment and Skills team would like to discuss your situation and make sure that you access a programme of support for your business and your staff to get the best outcomes possible.

Tameside Business Resilience Clinic

The Tameside Business Resilience Clinic is here to facilitate free advice and support to our Small Medium Enterprise (SME) businesses across the Borough, with a primary focus on micro and small businesses.

Through the Clinic you can access bespoke advice and guidance from our bank of Business Community Champions relating to various topics including Finance, HR, Legal, Social Media and Recruitment.

The Business Growth Hub

The Business Growth Hub provides fully funded support to businesses. Financial Advice

The Money Advice Service (MAS) provide free, impartial advice via their website, webchat, WhatsApp and telephone based service.

This includes a free Redundancy Handbook which provides people facing redundancy with a financial action plan. It covers redundancy pay, pensions, mortgage, insurance, rent, benefits and debt management. You can order up to 2,000 hard copies to be delivered to your business. Tameside ACE offers range of funded and chargeable training programmes for essential skills for life and work, including Maths, English and Digital Employability.  Funding and costs of support can vary dependant on the status of employees accessing the programmes.

Job Centre Plus Employee Seminar

The JCP offer a 45 minute Redundancy Seminar to employees at risk of redundancy, which can be delivered face-to-face or virtually, this includes:
  • An overview of the Jobcentre Plus (JCP) / Department for Work & Pensions (DWP) Reasons to claim out of work benefits
  • What to claim – New Style Jobseekers Allowance or Universal Credit. Signposting to the Benefits Calculators page on the Gov.uk website.
  • How to claim – Explanation of the initial on-line claims process and what to expect from the first and subsequent face to face interviews at the Jobcentre. The conditions contained within the Claimant Commitment contract.
  • Job search tips and current vacancies – Including how to use Find a Job and social media
  • The importance of preparing for the job market – Job search, CV, application / interview processes.
  • An introduction to the National Careers Service.
  • Government Funded training –Starting point is the National Careers Service.
  • Question and answer session.
 

The Redundancy Support Service for Apprentices

The Redundancy Support Service for Apprentices (ReSSA), launched by the Department for Education, provides clear, accessible advice and guidance to apprentices following redundancy, while supporting their next steps. It will help redundant apprentices to identify new apprenticeship and employment opportunities, and, where they are eligible, complete their current apprenticeship.

  • GC Skills – Commercial Training & Qualifications to support with restructuring to enhance CV’s and skills set in line with redundancy. ​

Apprenticeships Support
  • Apprenticeship Levy Match Transfer to support businesses to continue to recruit and train apprentices in line with restructuring plans.​
  • GC Skills – Support with Recruiting & Training New Apprentices - in line with restructure plans – from Level 2 through to Degree – training can take place whilst on furlough.
