School Admissions- Admission into Year 7 or Reception - Tameside MBC

Information for Primary School Offer Day

The national offer day for primary school places is16 April 2024.  If your application was submitted on or before the 15 January 2024, you will be able to view your allocated school by logging into your Citizen Portal after midnight on National Offer Day. You will also be notified of your allocated school, by email at some point during National Offer Day.

If your application was submitted after the 15 January 2024, you will receive notification of your allocated school at a later date, by letter. Late allocations are not viewable via the Citizen’s Portal. Please don’t phone to ask us the name of your allocated school. For data protection reasons, we are unable to give allocation information over the phone.

The School Admissions team receives a high volume of calls on National Offer Day and on the days following. To help us deal quickly with requests, if you have an enquiry about your child’s allocated school or you need advice on alternative options, please email the Admissions Team in the first instance at schooladmissions@tameside.gov.uk

We understand that this can be a very stressful time for parents, and you may find the following information useful to know in advance of offer day:

Can’t remember your password? - If you have forgotten your password, you can click on the ‘Forgotten your password’ link and a link will be sent so you can reset your password.

As you will appreciate, the phone lines can get very busy on offer day and the days following so here are our top tips:

  • The Starting Out pdf book also describes what happens after your application is submitted and what to do if you do not get your preferred school place offer on National Offer Day.
  • Waiting Lists - If you are not allocated your first preference school, you will automatically be placed on the waiting list for that school and you can appeal to an independent panel.  Details of your child’s position on waiting lists will be available from 6 May 2024 onwards.  Unfortunately, we cannot give any information on waiting lists before that date.  If a place becomes available at your preferred school and your child is at the top of the waiting list, your child’s allocated school will be amended.  Please note, this is an automatic process, and we will not ask you first.  It is important, therefore, to tell us if you do not wish to remain on the waiting list(s) for higher preference schools if you are happy to accept your lower preference school.  Please send this request in writing to the Admissions Team.  Failure to do so will result in you losing the allocated school for a school you originally ranked higher.
  • Appeals - You can submit your appeal using the online appeal form or by downloading and returning it to Democratic Services.  Appeals cannot be accepted over the phone. Further details of how to appeal can be found on the school appeal pages. The last date to submit an appeal to be heard before the end of the summer term is 17 May 2024.  If you submit an appeal after this date, it will still be heard but we cannot guarantee that it will be scheduled before the end of the summer term. https://www.tameside.gov.uk/schools/admissions/appeals
  • Statistical Information from previous years – this is available on the School Allocation Statistics page to show how places have been allocated this year and in previous years. https://www.tameside.gov.uk/schools/admissions/allocationstats
  • Not applied for a primary school place - You can still make a late application using the online form. If your preferred schools are full, you will be offered the nearest school to your home address with a place.

Requests to change allocated school – You can make a second application if you wish to apply for a school which still has places after National Offer Day. The second application overwrites the first application. So, if you want to stay on the waiting list for any particular school from your first application you must remember to include it on your second application. Second applications are processed after first time late applicants have been allocated schools

Applications for In-Year Transfers between Schools
The School Admissions Team is continuing to receive an exceptionally high volume of In-Year Transfer applications.  We are working hard to process these as quickly as possible however some applications are subsequently taking longer than usual.  The Admissions Team will inform parents of the outcome of applications as soon as we can so please may we ask you not to chase progress as this contributes to further delays.
Please note that decisions cannot be made during school holidays.

ONLINE APPLICATIONS – PLEASE NOTE THAT MOBILE PHONES ARE NOT CURRENTLY COMPATIBLE WITH THE SYSTEM.
APPLICATIONS MUST BE COMPLETED ON A LAPTOP OR PC.  COMPUTERS ARE AVAILABLE AT TAMESIDE LIBRARIES.

Considering a school place for your child for the first time, moving from Primary to Secondary School or moving school during the school year (In-Year Transfer) is very important.

The information in this section is intended to help you through this process. However you still probably want to arrange a visit to see the schools that you are considering.

For more information about Tameside Schools please visit Find A School

Some schools will have opens days or evenings usually held during their autumn term, but all schools welcome enquiries at any time of the year and Headteachers will be happy to make arrangements for you to visit.

All schools are regularly inspected by Ofsted. Many parents find this information useful when deciding on a school for their child.
