When out walking with your baby or toddler, point out things that you see, name them and make the sound (e.g. “car – brum brum”, “cat - meow”, “slide - weee”)

Young children love bubbles! Play in the garden or park giving your child lots of opportunities to ask for ‘more’.

Play games where you and your child do lots of different actions together (e.g. jumping, running, throwing, rolling). Label these actions for them.

Being outside means that you can carry out more messy play such as finger painting, making mud pies, sandcastles etc. Talk about what you are doing.

Go on a walk listening to the sounds around you. See if your child can identify what is making the sound (e.g. cat, aeroplane, fire-engine). You could make a list of things for your child to tick off as they hear them.

Develop your child’s imagination by pretending to be different characters such as superheroes, princesses, pirates or animals. Build a den outside for the character to live in and act out a story.
