Low Carbon & Environment Strategy

 

We AskedTameside Council are developing a Low Carbon & Environment Strategy to guide their work in becoming carbon neutral by 2038. The Council wanted to seek the views of Tameside residents to ask what their priorities were for the strategy and what the Council should focus upon.  Questions within the consultation focussed on awareness and attitudes towards climate change, before asking respondents to indicate their preferred actions within the following priority areas:

  • Homes, workplaces and Council buildings
  • Transport
  • Greenspaces
  • Production, consumption and waste

You SaidIn total, 372 responses were received.  90% of respondents agreed or strongly agreed that they were worried about climate change, with 86% agreeing that they support the Council taking action on climate change. 67% of respondents were unaware that the Council had declared a climate emergency.

When asked about specific actions to tackle climate change, the most commonly selected actions were:

  • Assistance in improving the energy efficiency of their homes
  • Actions to support and encourage walking and cycling
  • Planting trees on Council owned land and encouraging others to do the same
  • Reducing usage of single use plastics across Council activities
  • Ensure that there is collaboration with communities and businesses

We Did

The findings of the initial Low carbon and Environment Strategy consultation will be used, in conjunction with other considerations and engagement activities, to inform the development of the strategy and accompanying action plan.
