Celebrating achievements
We love hearing about the things that matter to you and celebrating your successes along the way.

Whether you've passed an exam, started a new job, completed a course, graduated, or reached another personal goal, we'd love to hear about it. If you'd like, we'll help you celebrate those important moments with you.

Your Personal Adviser (PA) and the Leaving Care Team are here to support and encourage you. We're proud of everything you achieve and enjoy seeing you grow in confidence and reach your goals.

National Care Leavers' Month - November
In 2025, National Care Leavers' Week became National Care Leavers' Month where Tameside Council’s Leaving Care Team, Participation Service and Staying Close Team came together to create a packed programme of fun, inclusive and uplifting activities for local care leavers.

Activities included bowling, pottery painting, Heaton Park Northern Light Show, breakfast clubs, weekly wellbeing walks called ‘Lightening the Load’, playing pool, retro games club and much more.

These activities were funded via donations from care providers, Inicio and TPR Care Services, along with local retro-games company, Gamesmania offering free gaming sessions.

Alongside these activities the teams who support care leavers hosted sessions to teach the young people new skills, cooking lessons and games clubs.

Every care leaver who took part was entered into weekly raffles, with a grand prize draw to wrap up the month.

So, join us in November 2026 to celebrate you! Your PA will share our event timetable nearer the time.

Your journey
Getting to know who you are, where you've come from, and what matters to you is an important part of becoming an adult.

Your Personal Adviser (PA) will take the time to get to know you as an individual. They'll talk with you about your interests, your goals, the people who are important in your life, your experiences, and the things that make you unique. Together, you'll explore what is important to you and the support you need to achieve your ambitions.

If you'd like to learn more about your time in care, we can help you access information about your personal history and experiences. Some young people find it helpful to look at their care records to better understand their journey and the events that have shaped their lives. Your PA can support you to request this information and guide you through the process.

As you move into adulthood, you'll also need proof of your identity for things like opening a bank account, applying for jobs, enrolling on courses, renting accommodation, or claiming benefits. We will make sure you have the documents you need, including:

  • a passport
  • a provisional driving licence
  • travel documents, if you are a separated young person seeking asylum

Your PA can also help you make sure you have access to other important documents, such as your birth certificate and National Insurance number.
