Stress

Defined by the HSE as ‘The adverse reaction people have to excessive pressure or other types of demand placed on them’ The HSE makes the point that stress is the adverse reaction and separates this from pressure, noting that pressured situation can be effectively managed to produce a positive situation. it is worth considering here the connection between stress and other behaviours adversely affecting health when the adverse reactions lead to poor mental health and often lead to further harms to health via alcohol, poor diet, gambling, tobacco.

The HSE has produced guidance on management; on how to prepare an organisation, take a step by step approach and an example of a policy and risk assessments. http://www.hse.gov.uk/stress/standards/downloads.htm
