Our role
The local authority has a statutory duty to promote the educational achievement of previously looked after children.
The Virtual School:
- Provides advice and information to schools, parents and carers
- Helps raise awareness of the needs of this group
- Promotes high expectations and inclusive practice
The Virtual School does not have a statutory role to monitor, track or provide direct casework for individual children once they are no longer in care.
Pupil Premium Plus (PP+) for previously looked after children
For previously looked after children:
- PP+ funding is paid directly to schools
- Schools are responsible for how the funding is used
- Funding should support the child’s individual educational needs
Schools are expected to work closely with parents and carers to ensure the funding is used effectively and makes a positive difference. Information about how a school spends their PP+ funding can be found on their website.
