Countryside Volunteering

Tameside Countryside Service

Responsible for managing the countryside of Tameside, the Service relies on the support and commitment of a team of Voluntary Rangers, without whose help, the level of service could not be maintained.

Our volunteers are people of all ages, and abilities and come in all shapes and sizes but each shares a common goal - to make a difference to their local countryside. There's something to suit everyone and is a great way to learn new skills, make new friends and get fit.

What do Voluntary Rangers do?

Every year hundreds of hours are spent by volunteers undertaking a wide variety of tasks, both at weekends and midweek. Many different types of projects are tackled, usually of high conservation or amenity value. It is by no means all physical and there is something for everyone!

If you are interested in helping us to look after the countryside in your spare time there are many opportunities for you to get involved, these include:

  • Undertaking Conservation work, improving the countryside for wildlife.
  • Leading or assisting with the year round programme of Events and Activities
  • Maintaining Trails through surveying, controlling vegetation, signposting and waymarking.
  • Green Business Days. Conservation day tasks out in the countryside tailored to suit your business, team or group

Taster Days

Throughout the year there is an opportunity to participate in one day conservation tasks with the countryside rangers. You never know, if you really enjoy yourself you might like to join our team of dedicated volunteers!

If you would like to get involved:

Why not join us and make your own valuable contribution to improving Tameside’s countryside? We can't do it without your help.
