Volunteering in Tameside Public Libraries

Our aims are to give adults, children and young people access to a wide range of reading material to support lifelong learning, to promote reading as a leisure activity and help with personal well-being. To provide high quality information on a wide range of subjects, help people get online and improve their computer skills and to preserve Tameside’s written, oral and pictorial heritage.

We offer enjoyable and worthwhile volunteering opportunities in several areas of the service. The majority of our volunteering opportunities are for the over 18s although there maybe opportunities for young people in the summer, linked to the Summer Reading Challenge

There are currently opportunities in

  • Our Book Time For Yourself clubs
  • Our Computer Buddies scheme
  • Our Health Information Centre based in Tameside General Hospital
  • The Local Studies and Archives Centre
