This delightful market town is a must for groups, coach parties and day trippers.
We have the ‘heart of the town’, the envy of many other North West towns – Ashton’s brilliant indoor and outdoor markets. This is where great choice, high quality and value for money still attracts thousands of shoppers everyday from all over the region.
This historic market holds a special place in the hearts of the public and traders alike. Not only is the market a well loved venue amongst shoppers and visitors but the market’s listed building it is an iconic landmark in the town centre.
The outdoor market is open seven days a week, a feat that other markets simply cannot match, with a flea market on Tuesdays and a table top sale every Sunday except for the last Sunday in the month – when Ashton hosts the North West’s biggest and best ‘Farmers and Producers’ market with all items fresh and grown locally.
At the Farmers’ market you are able to try the products – delicious food the way it used to taste, you can even have free samples from some of the traders. The range of products on offer is mouth watering they include Venison, Beef, Pork, Black Puddings, Chutneys, Preserves, Vegetables, Home Baking, Roast Hog, Cheeses and Honey, the choice is simply fantastic.
The indoor market – open six days a week – has an amazing range of quality goods including good old favourite sweets of yesteryear, bedding, gifts, clothing, food, even baby wear and dry cleaners.

On the last Sunday of each month, Ashton's famous market ground hosts a Farmers' and Producers' Market.
With over 70 stalls it is the biggest in the region, and new traders are booking stalls all the time.
The Farmers' and Producers' Market, previously recognised as the Best in The North West by the NFU, has also been voted the Best Farmers' Market in the North West by readers of the Observer Food Magazine.
There are a wide range of food products sold by the producers including Venison, Salad and Vegetables, Cheeses, Honey, Chutneys, Lamb, Smoked Fish, Ostrich, Home Bake, Fudge and lots more. If you're peckish on the way round the market, you'll find a Hog Roast being freshly carved for you to enjoy.

The usual Sunday giant table-top sale continues on the other side of the market ground so look out for collectables or just a plain old fashioned bargain. Street Entertainment is on hand to give the whole day a party atmosphere and there are often demonstrations by local organisations throughout the day.

At this year’s ‘How Green Is Your Market Award’ ceremony in Barnsley, Ashton’s popular market took the honours, firstly in the Regional Award category and then completed a great double in beating all comers to take the National Award as the country’s greenest market.
Ashton Market triumphed over competitor markets as far afield as Somerset and Morpeth in Northumberland in this hotly contested National Market Traders Federation event.
The event is a National Environmental Competition staged by the NMTF which monitors and encourages more recycling within a market and includes such items as creating more recycling points, upping the amount of bin collections, increasing cardboard and packaging recycling and even food waste.
