The disabled car park is smooth tarmac and is level. From the car park to the centre there is a 10 metre length of tarmac road with an uphill gradient of 1:8. The centre is on two levels with a wheelchair lift giving full access to the whole of the building.

Inside there are exhibitions on the history of the area from the time of the coal swamps to present day including a fully accessible 'walk through' mine, history of the ironworks and computer interactives.

Light refreshments are available.

The centre is open Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays throughout the year.

Please ring for seasonal opening times.

The toilets are open seven days a week from 9.00am to 4.00pm.

Outside the centre, car parking lower down the road gives easy access to the remains of the ironworks and several picnic areas.
