Computer Access for Everyone

Tameside Libraries have equipment and software that makes it easier for everybody to use our computers. To avoid disappointment please book a PC in advance and tell staff the equipment you would like to use.

• Trackball mouse devices - suitable for right and left hand users, there is no need to move your arm or rotate your wrist.
• Mouse Trays - which enable you to put the mouse where you can use it more easily.
• Big Keys LX (Large Keyboards) - with keys 10 times larger and letters 4 times larger than standard keyboards.
• 3-D keyboards - for users with limited, or no hand functions, who may use 1 finger, a head-stick or mouth-stick.
• Azabat Touch-Typing Tutor - Designed for blind and visually impaired beginners. Learn to touch type, practice your typing skills and improve your speed and accuracy. The typing tutor consists of 7 lessons and 7 exercises.  
• Dolphin Cicero - Software that will read a print document through a PC via a scanner.
• Dolphin Supernova - Software that magnifies screen content by up to 32 times, will speak what you are writing, or just read aloud what is on screen, including web pages.
• Basic Magnification - all of our public PCs have the windows magnifier enabled, allowing screen content to be magnified up to 9 times.
• 21 inch monitors - aid visually impaired people when they have magnified screen content.
• LCD monitors - non-flickering LCD monitors may be beneficial to people who have photosensitive epilepsy.
• Textease 2000 - an easy to use word-processor that has many features that appeal to children and adults. It can read back your work and check your spelling as you type.
• Special Chairs - fully adjustable office chairs that include head rests, arm rests that can be removed and a brake that can be operated from the sitting position to aid getting up.
• Executive Bengali - word-process in Bengali. NB. Not translation software.
• Executive Gujarati - word-process in Gujarati. NB. Not translation software.
• InPage Urdu - word-process in Urdu. NB. Not translation software.
