  • Play is still important for young teenagers. Play at this age might not involve toys but is still useful for developing language and interaction skills.
  • Board games are a fun way to encourage young teenagers to still play. Games which involve them to problem solve, sequence, predict and use their own knowledge are great.
  • Team sports such as football, netball, dancing and rounders can encourage young teenagers to play as a team and work together. This is an important skill for the future.
  • Young teenagers often like playing computer games. Try to pick games which require them to make decisions, problem solve and plan. Games which involve two people are great so that you can play together and discuss what is happening. There are some interactive games where young teenagers can play together remotely which involves them having conversations, negotiating, taking turns and socialising.
