Cultural Fashion Show Brings Communities Together

Press Release: 08/02/2024

PEOPLE from many backgrounds gathered at Dukinfield Town Hall on Friday, February 2, to make Tameside’s first cultural fashion show a huge success.

The event, which was organised by the Civic Mayor, Cllr Tafheen Sharif, not only celebrated diversity and brought together the borough’s communities, but it raised more than £800 for her charity appeal fund.

A packed Jubilee Hall saw fashions donated by several retailers, while the audience enjoyed a range of donated dishes reflecting the evening’s multi-cultural theme.

The Mayor said: “The fashion show was hugely successful and reflected Tameside’s diverse communities. We sent a message of solidarity, spreading love and understanding through each-other’s cultures.

“Equality and inclusivity are values close to my heart – values which motivated me to organise the event. I believe it’s really important that we highlight the positives of each one of our communities to create understanding among all.

“Thank you to Resham (Ashton), LA Fashion, Hope Couture,  Poppet's Place and Style Statement for showcasing their amazing models, outfits and jewellery. Thank you to each and every one of the hard-working volunteers who helped me to put on such a fantastic show.”

The Civic Mayor’s charity appeal fund comprises Home-Start (HOST), which offers expert support to families with young children that are going through difficult times; West African Development, which helps ethnic minority communities in Tameside, and Pauline Town’s We Shall Overcome, which provides assistance for the homeless.
