Making Smoking History street teams are coming to Ashton Market

People who would like help to stop smoking are being encouraged to come to Ashton Market this Sunday (18 February) where teams will be on hand to offer support and advice.

Advisors on behalf of Make Smoking History team, who are timing their visit with the fun fair on the market to reach as many visitors as possible, will be available from 11am to 1pm to demonstrate to residents the exclusive, free support offered through the Greater Manchester Smoke Free app and signpost to local stop smoking services.

Stopping smoking results in good things starting to happen, as quitting will allow you to start moving better, breathe more easily and saves money. Smokers are up to three times more likely to stop smoking for good by accessing stop smoking support.

Tameside residents will be eligible to six months free, premium access to the Greater Manchester Smoke Free app including the opportunity to receive a free 4-week starter vape kit posted straight to their door, to help them on their quitting journey.

The app includes premium support for GM residents only, that has been shown to double smokers’ chances of getting to the critical three-month milestone, including 24/7 access to stop smoking advisors, and tools highlighting progress, money saved and the opportunity to share their how far they’ve come with others on the quitting journey.

Be Well Tameside are a local service who offer support services to anyone who lives, works, volunteers or has a GP in the borough. They offer a range of health and wellbeing issues, and stopping smoking is one of them.

This local services offers stop smoking support from specialist stop smoking advisors, as well as supporting smokers to access quit smoking aids, such as e-cigarettes, nicotine patches and lozenges. The specialist stop smoking support can massively boost a smoker’s chances of quitting for good.

Tameside Council Executive Member for Population Health and Wellbeing Councillor Eleanor Wills said: “We want to reach as many residents as possible with support to help them stop smoking. The street teams presence, alongside all of our other support services available in the borough, are yet another way of making it easier for our residents to get help and support to quit.
