Citizenship Ceremonies

From 14th July Local Authorities are now able to reintroduce citizenship ceremonies where they can do so safely in accordance with health and safety guidance.
The time available for customers to book a ceremony has already been extended from the normal three month period, with the introduction of a six month extension from the start of the lockdown date (23rd March), so that no individual is impacted by the delay.
Week commencing 20th July the Home Office issued 5 outstanding certificates to Tameside Register office and citizens have received a ceremony. The Home Office are clearing further cases in date order unless there are exceptional circumstances to prioritise a case.  Upon receipt of the certificates citizens will be contacted in order to attend a citizenship ceremony to be presented with their naturalisation certificate.  If you require any further information please contact Tameside Register office on 0161 342 5032.

Important changes have been made to the way that British citizenship is granted to people applying to register or naturalise.

Under the Nationality, Immigration and Asylum Act 2002 successful applicants will be expected to attend citizenship ceremonies. These will be held in their local communities.

All applications received on or after 1st January 2004 will be subject to these new arrangements.

If your application is successful you will be told where to go for your ceremony. The heart of the citizenship ceremony will involve prospective citizens making an oath/affirmation to Her Majesty the Queen and a pledge of loyalty to the United Kingdom after which a certificate will be presented.

Citizenship ceremonies will take place at a designated venue within the local authority area.

For further information please contact the Tameside Register Office on Telephone Number 0161 342 5032.

Application forms can only be obtained from the Home Office on Telephone Number 0151 237 5498 or contact the helpdesk on Telephone Number 0845 0105200.

For general enquiries applicants can contact the Home Office on Telephone Number 0151 237 5478.
