How we score a business
The scoring matrix determines the star rating. It takes into account the animal welfare standards adopted by the business and your level of risk (based on elements such as past compliance).
Scoring matrix | Welfare standards | |||
---|---|---|---|---|
Risk | Minor failings | Minimum standards | Higher standards | |
Low risk | 1 star 1 year licence | 3 star 2 year licence | 5 star 3 year licence | |
Higher risk | 1 star 1 year licence | 2 star 1 year licence | 4 star 2 year licence | |
All licences are subject to 1 unannounced visit within the term of the licence |
Renewal Application
The application fee is required to be paid, before an inspection is arranged.
A licence may be granted for one, two or three years, depending on the outcome of the inspection, with the exception of keeping or training animals for exhibition; in this instance the licence is granted for a period of three years.
An application to renew a licence must be made at least 10 weeks before the expiry date of any existing licence.
