Object Stories

Operation Education!

The Manchester Regiment collection contains thousands of objects that help tell the stories of Manchester Regiment soldiers and the campaigns and conflicts they served in. Many of these objects have fascinating histories that are not immediately obvious on first sight. As part of a project funded by AMOT (Army Museums Ogilby Trust) we have selected a variety of objects and archives from the collection to tell their hidden stories. You can explore these below.

There are more resources available on https://www.intameside.co.uk/education/history-resources that are perfect for teachers to use when exploring topics of world wars and conflicts.  These include a short film of ‘Tommy Atkins’ a First World War soldier talking about life before, during and after his time in the trenches.
