Review of 2020 Statement of Community Involvement

The Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) sets out how Tameside Council will involve the local community, stakeholders and other organisations in preparing and revising local planning documents and making decisions on planning applications.

The current SCI was adopted in 2016. Local Planning Authorities are required to carry out a review of their SCIs every five years from the adoption date. There have been a number of changes to planning legislation, policy and guidance that need to be reflected in this update. In addition, there is a need to reflect on the measures implemented to help combat the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) and the implications for planning-related consultations. The draft SCI has been prepared to respond to the demand of social distancing to ensure effective community engagement continues to take place during this time.

The Council welcomes comments on any of the detail included within the SCI, including on the techniques and methods of engagement proposed.

The current version of the SCI can be found by clicking here.

The draft updated SCI can be found by clicking here.

The consultation will run for a period of 6 weeks from Thursday 20 August until Thursday 1 October at 5pm.

Comments can be submitted electronically by completing an online form found by clicking here.

Alternatively, comments can be emailed to planpolicy@tameside.gov.uk or returned by post to:
