An apprenticeship is a good way to begin or even change your career. It’s a job that allows you to ‘learn while you earn’ and get experience, network and achieve a qualification once completed.
We wanted to establish how aware residents are about apprenticeships – how they work and the opportunities they can offer. The consultation was part of information provided to the Greater Manchester Apprenticeships Hub.
The consultation is also part of the Tameside Apprenticeships Strategy and will help to inform future policy decisions.
The consultation showed some positive results around awareness of apprenticeships in Tameside. Over 70% were either ‘aware’ or ‘very aware’ of apprenticeships as a career pathway, and showed awareness that apprentices can earn whilst gaining a qualification. Most people knew what types of benefits apprenticeships offered and who could become one.
The data we collected was discussed at a local level and used to inform future initiatives and campaigns promoting Apprenticeships in Tameside. The Tameside Apprenticeship Stakeholder Groups, Learning Provider Networks and Council Employment & Skills teams were all able to take this information away for future projects.
