You Said We Did – Tameside Equalities Strategy 2022-2027 Consultation

We AskedThe cost of living crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic made life very challenging for a lot of our residents in Tameside.

At Tameside Council We are firmly committed to tackling inequalities and improving the livelihoods of all residents regardless of background, especially the most vulnerable.

This consultation was on a draft Equalities Strategy which presented our approach to embed an ethos throughout our organisation to tackling inequalities, so that we are better able to tackle inequalities throughout the borough.

The survey asked for views on a draft strategy

You Said

Most people either agreed or were undecided on whether the Council were committed and doing well to address inequalities.

We then laid out each of the draft Objectives and asked whether respondents understood it, what they thought about it and what we needed to do to fulfil it.

The vast majority of respondents understood all objectives. The questions about what they thought and what we needed to do were open questions and therefore received a wide variety of responses

We DidAs a result of the Consultation we made the following changes to the Strategy:

    • Refined and expanded on how the equalities dashboard would function
  • Added a commitment to consider adopting Cared for Children and Care Leavers as a protected group under Equality Analysis.
Proposed that we attempt to better understand barriers that customers face when
    • using our services
    • Developed some new Actions around improving representation of protected groups across the Council
    • Expanded the ways in which we can celebrate diversity

The final Strategy is available to view here:
