Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council
Employment Monitoring Data 2023/24

The Public Sector Duty under the Equality Act 2010 requires organisations to have due regard to the need to:

  • Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation
  • Advance equality of opportunity between different groups
  • Foster good relations between different groups

The annual workforce data in relation to Race, Disability, Gender and Age is published in order to comply with the requirements contained within the specific duties of the general public sector equality duty, and in order to consider future equalities priorities for the organisation. Where available, data relating to other protected characteristic groups is also provided.

Best practice recommends that we monitor employees, promotion and training as well as applicants for jobs. In addition, as an organisation with more than 150 employees the authority is recommended to monitor information including:

  • Grievances
  • Dismissals
  • Ending employment with the authority
  • Return-to-work rates after maternity leave
  • Length of service
  • Pay gap information

The following tables outline this information for the time period 1 April 2023 to 31 March 2024. Producing this information also allows us to monitor trends over time.

As at 31st March 2024 the Council directly employed 2777 employees (excluding casuals), 2543.88 total FTE of 2790 jobs across 6 directorates: Adults, Children’s Services, Resources, Governance & Pensions, Place, and Population Health. The data is based on all jobs and demonstrated as percentages to ensure that any one individual is not identified as a result. The exception to this is section 7, employees returning to work after maternity, which is the only data set that indicates the actual number of employees affected. Any numbers of 5 or less are suppressed in line with best practice data reporting guidelines.

NB – The data used to produce these tables relates to all staff employed directly by Tameside MBC including those employed on a variety of terms and conditions including NJC, Apprentices, JNC, Soulbury, Youth & Community Workers, NHS, and centrally employed teachers.  The data excludes any staff employed to work in a school.
