Before you file a report with us, you should do the following, unless you feel that you are in danger:
 

1. Have a conversation with your neighbour.

If you feel safe, Tameside council encourages you to approach your neighbours and have a conversation regarding your concerns. This can prevent matters from escalating, and allows you to resolve your concerns between yourselves. Your neighbour may not realise they are causing you any problems.
 
It is important to keep a record of the date and time you approached your neighbour when filing a report of anti-social behaviour.
 

2. Write to your neighbour.

If you don’t feel comfortable approaching your neighbour, or have already tried, you can try writing to your neighbour. This could be through an email, text or a letter. This could outline the issues that are affecting your household. It is important to remember that your neighbour may not realise how their behaviour is affecting you.
Alternatively, why not send one of our ‘Dear Neighbour’ Cards to highlight the issue you are concerned about.
Make sure you note down the date and time the letter/card is sent and retain a copy

3. How long should I complete diary sheets before I report the issue?

You may want to download a diary. You should follow the instructions on the diary sheets carefully as this may become an important piece of evidence for your case in the future.
 
Please note: Before you submit a report of Anti-social behaviour, we ask you to complete diary sheets. We are limited in how we can investigate claims of anti-social behaviour without these diary sheets, therefore this is crucial to your report. Once you have completed the diary sheets please return them to ASB@Tameside.gov.uk 

How long should I complete diary sheets for?
7 days - if alleging a daily occurrence
14 days - if alleging several times, a week
28 days - if alleging several times, a month.
 
We are very limited in how we can investigate complaints if we do not receive diary sheets.

4. Download the Noise App.

The Noise App is available for Apple and Google Play devices. It instantly records noise nuisance on your smartphone to create an accurate record of the problem and how it affects you.
 
Once you’ve recorded your evidence, you can send it directly to Tameside Council so that we can investigate. When creating your account on the app, you will need to select Tameside as your service provider when asked.
 
The recordings are uploaded directly onto a secure site for us to access and decide what action is necessary. You can make up to 10 recordings in any 24 hour period and each recording lasts for up to 30 seconds.

What action can be taken?( A partnership approach)

Tameside Council and partners work closely together, they are committed to protecting residents and use a range of tools and powers to stop the behaviour from continuing and where necessary bring people to account for their actions.
In many instances anti-social behaviour can be prevented by effective early intervention. In some cases, involving serious or persistent anti-social behaviour, statutory powers are available to provide protection for victims, witnesses and communities.

Types of action may include:

• You may be asked to complete an Anti-Social Behaviour Incident Diary to record details of the anti-social behaviour and how it affects you.
• We will work with other agencies to try and divert those committing anti-social behaviour into more positive activities.
• We will consider taking enforcement action against those responsible for ASB and will also seek to offer support to all parties wherever possible.
