Street or House to House Collection

If you are intending to carry out a Charitable Collection with the borough of Tameside, you will need a permit/licence from the Authority.
 

Street Collections

If you want to collect money or sell articles in any street or public place within Tameside, for the benefit of charitable or other purposes then you must hold a street collection permit issued to you by Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council under the Street Collections Regulations. It is an offence for any person to collect money or sell articles without the benefit of a permit and/or to breach the adopted regulations.
 
Within one month after the collection you will be required to forward a statement detailing the list of collectors, the amount collected and the expenses and payments incurred.

To apply for a Street Collection you should complete the application form or returns form

It will be necessary for you to give 28 days notice of your intention to carry out the collection. The Authority will only allow two collections to take place at any one time.
 

House to House Collections


 A Licence is required by anyone collecting:
 
Money from door to door, pub to pub
 
Clothing from House to House
 
It must be for charitable purposes and it is an offence to hold a collection without one. A permit is required to undertake a 'house to house' collection, under the House to House Collections Act 1939. 
 
A house to house collection permit can be granted for any period up to one year. With regard to vetting and checking to ascertain whether the organisation applying is genuine or not, the same procedures apply as for street collections. There is a requirement for the promoter of the collection to make a return following the collection.
