Reading Well / Books on Prescription

Image - books

Reading Well supports you to understand and manage your health and wellbeing using helpful reading. The books in the schemes have been chosen by health experts, as well as people with lived experience of the conditions.
Health professionals could recommend a book or you can visit your local library and choose a book for yourself.

Topics covered by the lists include depression, eating disorders, managing pain, sleep problems, autism, bullying and many more. There are also personal accounts of people affected by the conditions as well as practical advice for relatives and carers.

Books can be borrowed, renewed and returned in the usual way. If a book is not available for you to take on the day, it can be reserved free of charge and you will be contacted when it is ready to collect.

Please do not write in the books. Any worksheets or quizzes can be photocopied at the library for a small charge. Please ask a member of staff if you are unsure how to do this.

*In addition to the Reading Well for mental health list Tameside Libraries, together with Tameside and Glossop Clinical Commissioning Group have run their own scheme since 2008. This additional scheme will still be available whilst the listed titles are in stock.
