They are:

  • Reading Well Books on Prescription for dementia

  • Reading Well for young people
  • Reading Well for long term conditions

Adult and Dementia schemes - Over 100 self-help titles have been selected by staff from Tameside Libraries, the Primary Care Mental Health Service and experts by experience. They cover topics such as depression, healthy living, anxiety, bereavement, anger management, low self-esteem, stress and living well with dementia.

Young people scheme – Find ‘Shelf help’ at Tameside Libraries. The titles have been chosen by mental health experts and young people and include self-help and information titles, graphic novels and fiction. Subjects such as bullying, self-esteem, ADHD, body image and anxiety are included.

Long term conditions scheme – The books provide information about common conditions and symptoms, practical advice for living with a long term condition and support for self-management. They cover topics such as arthritis, diabetes, IBS, stroke, pain and fatigue.

Tameside Libraries have multiple copies of the titles on the lists, which can be prescribed by health professionals or young people's workers or borrowed on a ‘self-referral’ basis.. If you would like to know more about the Reading Well schemes or view the book lists, visit the Reading Well / Books on Prescription web page.
