Mayoral Protocol

The Civic Mayor of Tameside for the 2025-2026 municipal year is Councillor Shibley Alam.  Her Consort, Mr Mohammed Khairul will accompany the Civic Mayor to mayoral engagements.
 
The Deputy Mayor of Tameside is Councillor Helen Bowden
 
The Civic Mayor of Tameside is the borough’s first citizen and Tameside Council is proud of the traditions the office of Civic Mayor holds. 
 
In order that the mayoral dignity may be preserved, the following notes are for the information of the organisers of the virtual event.
 

FORMS OF ADDRESS

Please remember that the Civic Mayor is the first citizen of the borough and in respect of that position, all speakers should acknowledge the Civic Mayor first before naming anyone else; please refer to section b below.

• FORMAL – IN WRITING  The Worshipful the Civic Mayor of Tameside, Councillor Shibley Alam  and when the Civic Mayor’s Consort is present the Worshipful the Civic Mayor of Tameside, Councillor Shibley Alam and her Consort Mr Mohammed Khairul Alam.
• FORMALLY -  ORALLY   The correct form of address for the Civic Mayor is Madam Mayor and for the Civic Mayor’s Consort is Mr Consort.

Please address the Deputy Mayor as Madam Deputy Mayor.
 

PRESENTATIONS

If presentations are made at your event, please consider the role you wish the Civic Mayor to play and notify the Civic Mayor’s Secretary before the event. Please remember that as the first citizen of the borough, the Civic Mayor of Tameside is guest of honour.
