Welcome to Tameside

MapTameside is a unique place with a wealth of culture, history, and heritage. We are proud of the sights, sounds and foundations that make it a great place to live, work, invest and visit. From the canals that run through our streets, to the industrial cotton mills that form our skyline, and the greenery weaved through our town centres which each bring unique characteristics to our story and strengthen the makeup of our Borough.

Located just 12 minutes from Manchester City Centre yet nestled in the foothills of the Peak District; Offering both urban opportunity and rural tranquillity; Tameside has the best of both worlds. It’s central location means we are well-connected with excellent local transport links and being near the M60 and M62, means our town centres and industrial hubs are easily accessed throughout the region. By rail and Metrolink the local towns are just a train ride to nearby cities and Northern Powerhouse with Manchester Airport just a twenty-minute drive away.

We have bold plans for the future and are aiming to transform our town centres utilising £100 million in national and regional funding from the Government and working with key development partners to kick start regeneration across the borough.

We want to highlight our borough to strengthen our town centre offer to drive economic prosperity. We will also capitalise on the abundance of cultural attractions in the borough, steeped in history, creativity, and culture to create events and spaces that bring our communities together and generate even more civic pride and attract more visitors to the area.

Our Plans

With £20 million government funding for   Ashton Town Centre , and £20m for Stalybridge and a masterplan approved for Hyde, and one on the way for Droylsden, we have plans in place and are developing local masterplans for our towns to adapt and evolve them for our communities including bringing forward opportunities in residential, retail, health, employment, and leisure giving people more reason to visit our towns and local businesses and attract further inward investment.  These are not just plans with many projects already starting on site.

We have continued to work with and talk to all our key stakeholders from residents, businesses, community and educational groups and regional partners to understand the issues and opportunities that can drive these plans forward.

The beautifully restored and revitalised historic Ashton Old Baths is a shining example of how we have worked with the private sector to evolve our assets for the future. The building is now an innovation hub for digital and creative businesses with shared workspace and offices with a fantastic support team and brilliant creative community that provide unique opportunities for new and growing creative and digital businesses.

We would be happy to talk more to you about our development projects and future plans and how you can be part of them. Contact us to find out more.
