Greater Manchester Joint Minerals Development Plan Document
The ten Greater Manchester Authorities have worked together to prepare a Joint Minerals Development Plan Document (JMDPD). The document provides the planning policy framework to both minerals operators and the public. Development of the document commenced in November 2009 and included a number of consultation stages which have informed its approach and content. The various stages of production and consultation are available at the Greater Manchester Minerals Development Plan Document website.
The Minerals Plan was submitted to the Secretary of State in November 2011 following which Public Examination Hearings were held at Fred Perry House, Stockport, to consider the soundness of the Plan. The Secretary of State appointed Mr Andrew Mead MRTPI MIQ to oversee the Examination. Following the examination the Greater Manchester authorities received the Final Report on the assessment of the Minerals Plan form the Planning Inspectorate in January 2013.
The Inspector found the Minerals Plan to be sound and considered it to satisfy the requirements of Section 20(5) of the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 (as amended) and associated regulations. On 26 February 2013 Tameside Council approved the adoption of the JMDPD and consequent changes to Tameside's Proposals Map and on the 26 April 2013 it became part of the statutory development plan for Tameside.
