Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.

We learn from Safeguarding Adult Reviews to understand what went wrong, what could have been prevented and how services can work better together.

By working together, strengthening partnerships and learning from experience we want to make Tameside a place where adults feel safe, supported and heard.

The following four priorities outline our goals and what we are doing to keep adults safe from abuse and neglect.

Protecting Adults from Exploitation

Our goal is to make sure adults at risk of exploitation are identified early and can access the right support.

Exploitation can take many forms including financial abuse, cuckooing and modern slavery.

People who have care and support needs might be more at risk of this happening to them.

What are we doing?

  • Raise awareness of clear pathways to support adults who might be exploited.
  • Train staff to spot signs early.
  • Help communities recognise exploitation and who to contact.

Supporting Adult Carers

Our goal is to make sure people who look after someone receive timely support so they can continue to care with dignity.

What are we doing?

  • Provide helpful information and resources for carers.
  • Learn from carers’ experience to shape better services.
  • Help people recognise themselves as carers so they can access support.

Homelessness and Rough Sleeping

Our goal is to make sure adults receive the protection and support they need to stay safe.

Adults who are homeless or sleeping rough face serious risks including abuse, neglect and poor health.

What are we doing?

  • Promote flexible pathways to housing and specialist accommodation.
  • Work with staff to build confidence around safeguarding, trauma, stigma and roles of different services.
